Regarding the US's Obscured Vision . . . Quote from Rashid Kahlidi

“Almost forgotten . . . has been the suffering in Gaza caused by months of Israeli siege and bombardment.  It is also forgotten that all of this started with Palestinian efforts to create a democratic structure of governance while still under Israeli occupation.

“Specifically, this latest escalation began with a response by Israel and the United States to the elections for the Legislative Council of the Palestinian Authority (PA) in January 2006, which brought a Hamas-led government.  Their campaign quickly moved from a crippling financial siege of the PA, with the aim of bringing down that government, to an escalation of Israeli assassinations of Palestinian(s) . . . The rest of this tragic scenario then unfolded with the grim, bloody, unthinking precision we have seen so many times before in the conflict between Israel and the Arabs. . . .

“The one-dimensional and ahistorical approach to the conflict through the prism of terrorism that is prevalent in the United States obscures thoroughly the specificity of Palestine . . .”

~~~
Rashid Kahlidi, ‘The Iron Cage, The Story of the Palestinian Struggle for Statehood,’ quote excerpted from pages IX and X of the introduction.   Written in 2006, the siege is still in place.  Israel has repeatedly engaged in bombardments, every few years, between then and now.
Self-reference . . . Quote from Wendell Berry
"Her tone of self-reference almost always carried an overtone of self-pity."
~~~

Wendell Berry, 'A World Lost,' fiction . . . . Sometimes it is easiest to tell the truth in a story . . . .

~~~
Our human capacity for being so extremely self-referenced and self-pitying--is a big part of the reason that the world is in the sorry shape it is.
Part of the maturing process involves a fearless personal moral inventory. We must recognize our own history of self-reference and self-pity, as well the self-reference and self-pity that exists in our cultures and our religions. We must work hard to compare our actual situation to how most people really live, not just the people we know or who live in our town or country. We must compare our lives to those who live in impoverished and war torn nations. We must recognize our own privilege. And then we must find ways to lift up those who suffer from our lack of compassion and even the score. To truly create Peace on Earth, nothing less will do.
Access to adequate safe, clean water is a human right.  A human right that Israel denies the Palestinian people.
An estimated 1.2 million Palestinians in Gaza still have no running water. In addition, insufficient electricity supplies bar them from treating or pumping sewage, causing a risk of pandemic diseases such as cholera or typhoid.”
Israel targeted one water tank, 26 wells, three desalination plants and dozens of sanitary sewer lines during its war on Gaza.” http://www.al-monitor.com/pulse/originals/2014/10/gaza-infrastructure-damage-leaves-many-without-water-power.html##ixzz3HAxXMFPz
Israel also targeted agricultural water infrastructure during their most recent bombardment of the Gaza strip, vastly curtailing Palestinian farmers’ ability to care for livestock and produce crops:
Israeli policy of destroying Palestinian access to water also affects the West Bank:
Israel has a long history of depriving Palestinians access to water:
Courage without Justice is just Brutality
“Courage without Justice is just Brutality.”
Professor J.Rufus Fears, University of Oklahoma, ‘The World was Never the Same: Events that Changed History,’ Great Courses, disc 1, lecture 3, ‘The Enlightenment of the Buddha.’
~~~

 “ . . .the Israeli state is implementing an apartheid system based on the dominance of Israeli Jews over Palestinians. Beyond the prolonged siege and collective punishment of the Palestinians of Gaza, the ongoing settlement project in the West Bank, and the now regular massive military assaults on the civilian population of the Gaza Strip, one must add the increase in aggravated racist hate speech.”

The Russell Tribunal  on Palestine:

~~~
Unequal Justice
" . . . law is different depending on whether you are an Israeli citizen or a Palestinian, as reporter Daniel Estrin revealed and co-authored in an investigative report for the Associated Press.
“Israeli settlers are prosecuted under Israeli civilian law, but Palestinians, who live just a few minutes away from those Israeli settlers, are subject to a completely different set of laws — military laws and the military justice system . . . ”
~~~

"Discriminatory Policies in Israel and Palestine"

“In East Jerusalem, Palestinian areas do not get serviced by public buses, garbage collectors or ambulances (to call an ambulance requires a police escort).”  Much, much more covered in the article:

~~~
Under Israeli apartheid, Palestinians are subjected to:
No right of free speech, assembly or movement
Arrest and imprisonment without charge or trial
Torture
House searches without warrant
Assassination, extra-judicial murder
No right to vote for the Israeli government (even though it controls their lives)
In honor of Audre Lorde and all the activists that have come before us. May we craft lives for ourselves that raise up their glory; so that like them, we may work tirelessly towards the freedom, equality, and justice of all people.
