Israel Uses Gaza to Test and Market Weapons

This Hermes 900 model was used in the Gaza offensive last summer, as documented in the article directly below.  It is pictured here, in an exhibit in Paris during an air show in 2007.  This is a product that Israel continues to market as is also explained in the article below.  Please also scroll down on this  ISDEF web page to see how Israel uses its violent and devastating offensives against Gaza to market technology and training. Their new marketing trade show is scheduled for June 2 - 4, 2015 in Tel-Aviv.  This is technology and training that may soon be utilized by the law  enforcement agencies, near you.  If we don't stand up for Palestinians, we may all end up being treated like we allow them to be treated.  It is up to us to be the change!

The article outlines an appalling number of human rights workers who have been killed, as well as those who have been detained or other wise prevented from doing their important work. It closes with this statement:

"The UN Declaration on Human Rights Defenders provides for the support and protection of human rights defenders in the context of their work. It mentions existing rights in a way that makes it easier to apply them to the role and situation of human rights defenders.

"The declaration includes the right to conduct human rights work, to collect information relating to human rights, to criticize the functioning of governmental bodies, to offer legal assistance and advice in defense of human rights, as well as the right to attend public hearings, proceedings and trials to assess compliance with national and international law. It also includes the right to receive resources — including from abroad — for the purpose of protecting human rights.

"Given the scale of the killing of civilians Israel is perpetrating in Gaza, it is more urgent than ever that Israel be required to respect these rights and stop obstructing the work of human rights defenders."

"Israeli occupation soldiers surrounded the home of Palestinian Legislative Council member Khalida Jarrar in Ramallah to hand her a military order in the early hours of 20 August. 

"Jarrar was ordered to leave Ramallah and travel to the district of Jericho where she would be required to stay for six months. The military order is supposedly based on secret information and states that Jarrar “poses a threat to the security of the region, so she must be put under special monitoring.”

"Jarrar — who is a senior member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and a board member of Addameer Prisoner Support — refused to sign the order. Forced transfers are a violation of international law."

"Ferguson Police Chief Lied About Why He Released Alleged Michael Brown Robbery Tape: Report"

"Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson lied when he said he had received "many" specific requests for the videotape that allegedly shows Michael Brown robbing a convenience store, according to a new report.

"All I did -- what I did was -- was release the videotape to you, because I had to," Jackson told reporters on Aug. 15 when asked why he released the robbery footage. "I’d been sitting on it, but I -- too many people put in a [Freedom of Information Act] request for that thing, and I had to release that tape to you."

Writing for The Blot, Matthew Keys reports that the police department did not receive any specific requests for the videotape.

"A review of open records requests sent to the Ferguson Police Department found that no news organization, reporter or individual specifically sought the release of the surveillance tape before police distributed it on Aug. 15," Keys writes."

Just days after her 90th birthday, Holocaust survivor Hedy Epstein was arrested Monday in St. Louis when she was part of a protest outside Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon’s office. Epstein was born in Germany and left in 1939 on a Kindertransport to England. Her parents died in Auschwitz. Epstein is a co-founder of the St. Louis Palestine Solidarity Committee and St. Louis branch of Jewish Voice for Peace. In 2011, she was part of the Gaza Freedom Flotilla and was a passenger on the U.S.-flagged ship, The Audacity of Hope.
