Send Your Love

Shireen Issawi

Take Action!

At least 20 Palestinian women are currently imprisoned in Israel for their political activism.  It is illegal, under international law, for Israel to transfer Palestinians from their territory into Israel; however, that is exactly what has happened to these women.

The 20 women listed below are being held in HaSharon Prison, which is located in the Central District of Tel Aviv, Israel. Their families are not allowed to visit, nor are their friends, support persons, or others in solidarity.

Further, the conditions the women are held under is reportedly harsh.  "They are facing deliberate medical negligence and the worst ill-treatment by Israeli jailers."

An action plan to help alleviate the isolation of prisoners like Shireen Issawi, pictured above, has been organized by I am Palestinian I am not a terrorist.

The plan is very simple. Buy 20 postcards, with as many different photos or designs as possible, address each one to a different prisoner, add a non-political message, and put them in the mail.  Messages or images that can be construed to express resistance or solidarity or criticism of the Israeli regime will not be delivered.  A very simple note, something to the effect of   "Dear ...   Sending love to you and your companions in prison from (your city and country)."

You might choose to send one postcard a day or a few per week. That way, if the women have any opportunity to share them, the moments of joy they bring will be extended.  This action also demonstrates to the occupiers and oppressors that the world is paying attention.

Here are the names:

Nahil Abu Aisha - Fidaa al-Shaibani - Bushra Al-Taweel - Rasmiya BalawnaEhsan Dabsdsa  - Fida' Da'mas - Shireen Issawi - Lina Jarboneh - Lina Khattab - Tahrir Mansour - Haniyya Nasser - Falastine Nijim - Muna Qa’adan - Dima SawahrehYasmeen Shaban - Fida SuleimanThuriya Taha - Amal TaqtaqaDunia Wakeed - Samaher Zeinaddine.  Each postcard needs to be addressed to one name only.

Here's the address:

HaSharon Prison
Even Yehuda
P.O. Box 7
40 330 Israel

I am Palestinian I am not a terrorist is also asking that we respond to their original call to action; or that we take a photo of our postcards and post to their page, so they can keep a tally of how many people participate.

We are the change!  Show your support!

Time 2 Choose

Sign the Pledge to Take Action, and ask your Congress People to Take Action as well!

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu's recent racist appeals and rejection of a Palestinian state have caused a political earthquake that could once and for all change the conversation about Israel. Help us get 20,000 signatures on this Open Letter that says It's time to stop waiting for a false peace process and using only words of criticism. We must instead start embracing all forms of nonviolent pressure on Israel.

Change in Israel Will Only Come from Outside Pressure

" . . . We believe it is now time to say clearly that liberation for Palestinians, millions of whom have lived under military rule for most of Israel’s existence, and liberation for Jewish Israelis, whose society is becomingly increasingly militarized, anti-democratic and racist, can only be achieved through outside pressure from people like us.

"The time to choose is now-—we can continue to delay justice by holding onto the illusion of a false peace process or offering only words of criticism, or we can stand on the side of freedom and equality, and embrace all forms of nonviolent pressure on Israel.

"We therefore call on all who seek freedom for the people of Israel and Palestine to choose justice, and to join us in asking friends, loved ones, community leaders, institutions and elected officials to put pressure on Israel to reach a just agreement with the Palestinians.

"Whether through lobbying Congress; implementing Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaigns; advocating for the US to stop using its veto at the UN; supporting Palestinians’ right to go to the ICC or other international bodies; or continuing to transform the conversation within the American Jewish community— only by building a grassroots movement, rooted in values many of us learned at the Passover table, can we achieve the liberation of all peoples in the region."

Free Palestine!

Quick Action from the American Friends Service Committee

http://salsa3.salsalabs.com/o/50601/images/14569/AFSC-logo-trans.png

Call on Congress:

Ask for an end to movement restrictions in the occupied Palestinian territory.

"Control of Palestinian movement has been a feature of the Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territory since its inception in 1967. However, over the last 14 years the system of movement controls used by Israel in the occupied Palestinian territory has become increasingly institutionalized and restrictive with severe adverse affects. This is a severe violation of a very basic human right."

Tell your congressional reps how you fell and to ask them to hold Israel to account:

For More Information on how Israel controls and thwarts Palestinian movement please see the following posts:

Merry Christmas from Bethlehem focuses on the Bethlehem wall, with a photo, and discusses its affects on the community.

Boycott HP has a photo of one of the guarded gates that prevent Palestinian freedom of movement.  You will also find some information on international law regarding this restriction of movement in the text.

It's up to us to be the Change features a photo of the Gaza wall with an automated gun tower.  It also discusses the illegal motivations behind Israel's illegal restrictions of Palestinian people.

Travel Discrimination discusses how Israel's efforts to oppress Palestinian people and restrict their movement extends to American Citizens of Palestinian descent.

Skip Netanyahu’s Speech!

Quick Action:  Sign the letter to tell Congress to Skip Netanyahu's Speech.

(Archive only, this action has ended.)

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu plans on making a mockery of our US Congress by using it as a platform for a political speech aimed at securing his re-election in Israel.  Read about the controversy surrounding his plans in the New York Times

Tell Congress to skip Netanyahu’s speech

Join us in raising our voices to protest Netanyahu’s speech, not because it’s a partisan snub, nor because the date is close to the Israeli elections, but because Netanyahu is going to Washington to undermine the U.S. strategy of diplomacy with Iran.

Instead of letting diplomacy work, Netanyahu wants the U.S. to impose harsher sanctions on Iran, all but ensuring that talks collapse and increasing the risk of war.

Raise your voice now and tell Congress to boycott Netanyahu’s speech: http://act.rootsaction.org/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=10842&tag=ETO20150127&track=ETO20150127

H. Res. 707

House Resolution 707

(Archive only, this action has ended.  Scroll down for up-date.)

Up Date:

"This simple resolution was agreed to on September 18, 2014."

"The 'H.Res.' in 'H.Res. 707' means this is a House simple resolution in the United States Congress. A simple resolution is used for matters that affect just one chamber of Congress, often to change the rules of the chamber to set the manner of debate for a related bill. It must be agreed to in the chamber in which it was introduced. It is not voted on in the other chamber and does not have the force of law."

https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/113/hres707

Full text at the link below.  If you read it, about half way down you will see why we found this bill concerning.  Even though it only affects one chamber of Congress it still limits freedom of speech.  Further, it totally ignores the fact that the occupation is illegal and that "Gaza cannot commit aggression against Israel, since Israel is in constant and continual commission of illegal aggression against Palestine."  Further, Palestine is a State, and the Palestinian people have the right to protect protect themselves and to resist the Israeli occupation.

Original Post:

Representative Jerrold Nadler is sponsoring a bill that condemns all forms of criticism of Israeli policies because he believes it constitutes anti-Semitism. When in reality, Mr. Jerrold is trying to kill any attempts by conscientious objectors from shedding light on the atrocities being committed by Israel against Palestine. If this resolution passes it will be considered a blow to the First Amendment right of free speech.

This link provides the resolution in its original format. Note that the premise of Mr. Nadler's resolution rejects the caparison between Nazism and Zionism. However, if Mr. Nadler takes a moment he would realize that he is muffling the very voice of dissent that could have shielded the Jewish population in Europe from Hitler's objectives. https://www.congress.gov/bill/113th-congress/house-resolution/707/text

In March 2010 four-fifths of the U.S. House and Senate reaffirmed their unbreakable bond with Israel while the American military was waging a war in Iraq on fabricated intelligence of weapons of mass destruction. This sacred bond with Israel has also led to the unbalanced approach to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict where the American veto has repeatedly protected Israel from being held accountable for the systematic ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.

At the bottom of  the page at the following link you will find a list of co-sponsors for this bill that surprisingly enough consists of a lot of Democrats. This link also has a letter you can copy and past to your elected officials. http://falastinews.com/2014/11/09/h-res-707-repeals-the-1st-amendment/

This is Mr. Nadler's email address: https://jerroldnadler.house.gov/forms/writeyourrep/

Mr. Jerrold Nadler,

"To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize." Our First Amendment guarantees every citizen the right to question the narratives and actions of their representatives and the media. To suggest that Americans should willingly give that up shows that you are willing to put our First Amendment right in jeopardy.

The desire to eliminate any sort of criticism toward Israel only suggests that there is something that needs to be hidden from the American public's eye. To even support any bill that destroys the sanctity of the American Constitution and the Bill of Rights, which has been a beacon of hop for all peoples from all around the world, only supports the growing world concern regarding the atrocities and human right violations Israeli has been committing against the Palestinian people, and America's complicity in these acts.

I urge you to reconsider your support for this bill. Please remember that "The Framers of the Constitution knew that free speech is the friend of change and revolution. But they also knew that is is always the deadliest enemy of tyranny," Hugo Black. And also remember that our government is supposed to represent the people of the United States, not AIPAC.

I hope I can trust you to stand up for freedom of speech and not be swayed by the tyranny supported by AIPAC.

Sincerely,

Boycott for Peace!

Save Al-Aqsa Mosque

Open letter to Political Leaders:

Al-Aqsa Mosque is part of a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site.  It is located in Old Jerusalem, on the Palestinian side of the internationally recognized borders between Israel and the West Bank.  Under the Oslo Accords signed in 1993 Israel agreed to withdraw from the area.

However, that withdrawal never happened.  Israel occupies and controls the area today, and has been increasingly using violence to deny Palestinian people the right to worship, pray, and even visit their own Holy Place in their own land.

9.23. 2014:  “Israeli forces fired stun grenades and rubber-coated bullets at worshipers and protesters, injuring dozens.”  http://english.al-akhbar.com/node/22063

10.20.2014-- “Israeli Settlers jeopardize the fate of UNESCO heritage site:"  http://www.middleeasteye.net/columns/israeli-settlers-jeapordise-fate

It is, by the way, against International Law to destroy ‘Cultural Property:’
https://www.icrc.org/customary-ihl/eng/docs/v2_rul_rule38

Cultural Property is not the only thing at risk.

10.23.2014—“Israeli Army Kidnaps nine Palestinian women as they leave al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem:”  http://www.imemc.org/article/69483

10.29.2014—Israeli Defense Forces attack women on their way to al-Aqusa Mosque: https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=1526252397632127

The UN, by the way, “Strongly condemns the failure of Israel, the occupying Power, to end its prolonged occupation of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, in accordance with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions . . .” and they also call “ . . .  for an immediate cessation of Israeli military assaults throughout the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and an end to attacks against all civilians . . .”  http://www.ohchr.org/EN/HRBodies/HRC/SpecialSessions/Session21/Pages/21stSpecialSession.aspx

Why are we standing by and allowing all this to happen?  Why do we continue to support and arm Israel?  It is time for us to quit looking the other way and do the right thing.  We must act to save al-Aqsa Mosque and the Palestinian People.

Peaceful Political Action 101-A

Our Plan:  Education, letter writing, keeping the boycotts strong!

~~~
First, you’ll find information about AIPAC, The American Israel Public Affairs Committee, and why you should be concerned about them.  Next you will find pending bills from various states that need our attention, followed by how you can help with the resistance.  Last are some links to learn more about the boycotts.
~~~

AIPAC has been disrupting American Democracy since 1951.  If you aren’t sure how they affect our government please watch the video at the link below.  It runs 45 minutes, so choose a good time.  It’s called ‘The Day Israel Attacked America.’  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JRgXie2teo

Amazingly 34 American service men were killed and 173 injured. Our government hid this information from us, all because of AIPAC’s money.

Also check out the ‘Honor Liberty Veterans’ page for confirmation of this military crime which Israel perpetrated against the USA:  http://honorlibertyvets.org/

Just in case you think AIPAC’s influence ended in 1967, please read the following articles from this year:

Congressional reps taking money from Pro-Israel PACs—names and dollar amounts listed:

Only 8 US reps voted NO on sending more military aid to Israel; aid by the way, that is used for ethnic cleansing and genocide:

~~~
We Must Resist!
~~~

There are Pro-Israel Bills on the dockets in several US States.
We need to develop responses!

CA - Assembly Resolution 50
“ . . .  Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, That the Assembly recognizes both Israel's right
 to exist as a nation, and to exist within safe and secure borders . . .”

CA -  AB 1166
“This bill would establish the California and Israel Trade and Economic Development Act”

CO - HB1255 –postponed indefinitely, so not necessarily a priority
“Negotiate Resident Tuition For Israeli Students”

“State of Israel; support and invite Honorable Consul General Opher Aviran to House.”

MO - HB 1729 –not on calendar so not necessarily a priority
“Requires the Division of Commerce and Industrial Development to support and assist the development of biotechnological enterprises and establish an office in Israel to assist with the promotion of state exports.”   http://www.house.mo.gov/billsummary.aspx?bill=HB1729&year=2014&code=R

Join the Resistance!

If you find additional bills, please make sure you are on the original blog or facebook post, and then post the information in comments.  We will up-date this list and form new lists as additional information becomes available.

Original blog post.  You can tweet, pin, reblog, or e-mail from this link.
Original facebook post.  It's a sharable meme!

Also, if you have comment or letter writing suggestions that will fit in either PopVox’s comment section (see below) or in congressional contact forms please also leave them on the original posts.  We may use the very best or a combination of the very best in future posts, memes, or files.  However, all contributions are welcome, original letters receive more political clout than form letters, so having a variety of letters available for people to choose from helps us be more effective.

Congressional contact forms allow a total of 2,500 characters including spaces.  Generally that comes out to between 450 – 470 words.

Find your Reps!  Click on your state on the map at the link below, and all your state reps are shown, with phone numbers, e-mail addresses, and contact forms.  If your state has an overwhelming number of reps, go back to the first page and simply enter your zip code in the form (no other information is needed even though it is asked for).  Only the reps for your immediate area will be shown: http://www.contactingthecongress.org/

~~~
PopVox also provides an easy way to find your reps and communicate with them, as well as offering the ability to track bills, and to track voting records.  The page is currently down but it should be back up soon:  https://www.popvox.com/
Another good place to find bills and to sign up for bill tracking is:  https://www.govtrack.us/
We don’t find this site as effective or as easy to use as PopVox, but it is functional now.
Please use these sites to search your state on Israel, Palestine and any other key words you think are important.  We could have missed significant bills that need our attention, and new ones can be added at any time.
Please share what you find . . .
