Boycott Taditel!

Taditel, part of the Ha’argaz group, supports and profits from the illegal occupation, violent assaults on Gaza, the many miles of apartheid walls, and the freedom choking checkpoints.  Documentation can be found below.

Consumers can avoid supporting this company by avoiding their aftermarket regulators and rectifiers.  Ask your auto parts store or mechanic if another brand is available.  If it isn’t an emergency or if you can do without your car for a few days they may be able to able to order a different brand if they don’t have one in stock.

In addition, new cars often come with Taditel regulators and rectifiers.  If you choose to completely boycott this company we recommend only buying used cars.  If you must have a new car, first ask who makes their electronic equipment.

Many Israeli (and other complicit) companies produce components for consumer vehicles.  Israel is also in the business of stealing Palestinian oil and gas and exporting finished fuel.   When you are ready to be totally serious, if you really need a personal vehicle, always buy used.  And then, Park your car for Peace, whenever you can for as long as you can.

If you are not clear on why we boycott, we have 11 different posts that explain a few of the very many reasons.  You can access them all here:  http://boycott4peace.blogspot.com/search/label/why%20we%20boycott

Documentation:

Ha’argaz has long history of collaborating with the Israeli army:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ha%27argaz

“On the day after the 29th of November 1947, on which it was decided in Lake Success to establish a Jewish state in the Land of Israel, “Ha’argaz” representatives were invited to meet with Levi Eshkol, among the leaders of Israel at the time, and were asked to lend a hand in the effort towards the nearing war. The factory quickly prepared itself for production for war and began to make armored vehicles, which served the IDF in the first battles that broke out the day after the declaration of statehood.” http://www.haargaz.com/HTML5/?_id=12981&did=5309&G=12981

Ha’argaz now operates within the illegally occupied territories and it manufactures equipment and casings used in Israeli drones, the separation walls, and checkpoints.  http://www.whoprofits.org/company/haargaz-technopach-metal-industries

“Israeli company Taditel, is a leading tier 2 automotive electronics module designer and manufacturer that produces voltage regulators and control units for both original equipment manufacturer or OEMs as well as for the aftermarket. The company has positioned itself as a global supplier of custom microelectronic solutions.”  http://www.ai-online.com/Adv/Previous/show_issue.php?id=1782#sthash.pYZcfnZG.dpbs

We want to give special recognition to Dorith Carneli for the tip about this company.  Thanks again Dorith!   We wouldn’t have been aware if you hadn’t brought it to our attention . . .

When shopping for car parts, supplies, electronics, tools, and accessories; also avoid both Hyundai and Caterpillar products.   If you are looking for LED replacement bulbs, the company to watch out for is HP.

"J Street has launched a petition aimed at raising opposition to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech to Congress, scheduled to occur on March 3, two weeks ahead of elections in Israel.

"The petition, with some 20,000 signatures, according to The New York Times, is meant to show that while the prime minister may represent Israelis, "He certainly cannot claim any mandate to speak for Jews in the United States."   As reported by The Jerusalem Post.

From the Petition:

"Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he would be representing all Jews when he addresses Congress next month. He said he's coming to Washington "not just as the prime minister of Israel but as a representative of the entire Jewish people."

"He's in the middle of a tough election campaign, battling along with other party leaders for the right to represent Israelis--but he certainly cannot claim any mandate to speak for Jews in the United States.

"Add your name. Help us let his Ambassador in Washington, Ron Dermer, know that--as an American, as a Jew--Benjamin Netanyahu doesn't speak for you:"

Archeology and Hebrew Mythology

Palestinian culture began as early as 7000 BC, and was well developed with qualities that can be recognized today as early as 5000 BC.  According to Hebrew (Israeli) narrative, they claim to have conquered Canaan (which they misconstrue as being synonymous with Palestine) around 1000 BC.  However, neither archeological nor ancient texts dating to that era support this narrative.  Unbiased scholars consider this narrative to be largely fictional.  One scholarly view from 'The Ancient Gods,' by E.O. James, (related below), is that the nomadic Hebrew tribes, through a slow and gradual process, settled in the area along side Indigenous Palestinian people.  The result was a culture fusion rather than subjugation or annihilation.

~~~
" . . .  in Syria and Palestine where . . . a Neolithic agricultural civilization arose at Jericho perhaps as early as 7000 BC  . . . "  (pg 34)
"It was not, in fact, until the beginning of the early Iron Age (c. 1200 - 900 BC) that the traditional Hebrew invasion of Palestine began . . ." (pg 35)
"Unquestionably the traditional account of the events and incidents in the quasi-legendary patriarchal period in the book of Genesis, and the final Hebrew settlement in Palestine in and after the middle of the second millennium BC, is largely mythical."  (pg 36)
"In fact the penetration of the invading nomadic tribes was a very gradual process resulting in a fusion which produced a composite culture .  .  ." (pg 38)
Skip Netanyahu’s Speech!
Quick Action:  Sign the letter to tell Congress to Skip Netanyahu's Speech.
(Archive only, this action has ended.)
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu plans on making a mockery of our US Congress by using it as a platform for a political speech aimed at securing his re-election in Israel.  Read about the controversy surrounding his plans in the New York Times
Tell Congress to skip Netanyahu’s speech
Join us in raising our voices to protest Netanyahu’s speech, not because it’s a partisan snub, nor because the date is close to the Israeli elections, but because Netanyahu is going to Washington to undermine the U.S. strategy of diplomacy with Iran.
Instead of letting diplomacy work, Netanyahu wants the U.S. to impose harsher sanctions on Iran, all but ensuring that talks collapse and increasing the risk of war.
Raise your voice now and tell Congress to boycott Netanyahu’s speech: http://act.rootsaction.org/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=10842&tag=ETO20150127&track=ETO20150127
History
We have all heard the old adage, ‘to the victor go the spoils.’  One of the spoils of victory has always been the privilege of rewriting history—of obliterating facts—to show the victor as just, humane, and worthy.  Another old adage is that, ‘there are always two sides to every story.’  The side of the oppressed, the exploited, the colonized and conquered was, until recently, seldom publicly told.
Modern technology has begun to democratize media.  Mainstream media still embraces the idea that the victor gets to spoil the facts and rewrite history.  However, the more we continue to reject mainstream media and seek out citizen and alternative journalism, the more our view of the world expands.
The land speaks Arabic
Image from Celebrate Palestine Films.
The Land Speaks Arabic is a film that takes us beyond the views that the victor, that the oppressor, wants us to see.  To begin to understand the true story of the Holy Land, we need to take in the entire view, not just what the mainstream media asserts in their support of oppression.
This film tells the story of European-Jewish colonization and settlement of Palestine and its effects on Palestinians, beginning in 1891.  Archival material, including film footage, photographs, and documents carry much of the story.  Interviews with those who lived through the great Palestinian catastrophe known as the Nakba are included, as are quotes from leaders and politicians of the day.
 "Palestine proper has already its inhabitants. The pashalik of Jerusalem is already twice as thickly populated as the United States, having 52 souls to the square mile, and not 25% of them Jews."
Acts of Jewish terrorism and ethnic cleansing perpetrated against the Indigenous population are recounted and illustrated. The film ends with the people who now live in exile, sharing their visions of the homes they lost and the pain in their hearts.
Narration is provided by Nur Masalha, who also did much of the research for the film.  He is a Palestinian historian and Professor of Religion and Politics.  He is as well, the Director of both the Centre for Religion and History, and the Holy Land Research Project at St Mary's University College; as well as an acclaimed author whose books include 'The Politics of Denial: Israel and the Palestinian Refugee Problem.'
'The Land Speaks Arabic,’ a film by Maryse Gargour--available on request from public libraries and from where ever you ordinarily rent DVDs.  It can also be watched on YouTube
If the Israeli atrocities against Palestinian people had stopped, perhaps we could forget about this history.  Unfortunately, as noted by Nur Masalha in the film, the Zionist program against the Palestinian people continues today.  You can read about some of the current manifestations on this thread:  http://boycott4peace.blogspot.com/search/label/why%20we%20boycott
Salt & Justice
Below you will find information on child and other labor issues in salt production; this is followed by the Israel connection.  Then you will find some information on why you actually need salt—so don’t completely boycott all salt!  After that you will find information on Ethical Salt; if that is all you need to read, please scroll down.
~~~

Child and other labor issues:

Bangladesh—for documentation of child labor in salt mines, scroll down at the link to the second chart; the first entry under ‘Industry’ is what you are looking for, it has links to more information.  http://www.dol.gov/ilab/reports/child-labor/bangladesh.htm

Cambodia—Child labor documentation, similar to the above; scroll down at the link to the second chart.  The second entry under ‘Industry’ documents child labor for production of salt with links to more information.  http://www.dol.gov/ilab/reports/child-labor/cambodia.htm

India—“In India's salt-producing area thousands of families - including children as young as 10 - toil in the desert using a harvesting technique unchanged in centuries.”  http://www.telegraph.co.uk/expat/expatnews/7305988/Salt-mining-leaves-bitter-taste-for-Indian-workers.html

Kenya—“Due to low education levels and high poverty rates most of salt farm employees still work under extremely poor conditions; they lack essential safety gears like gloves, boots, helmets, overcoats, scrapers and basins.  Long term exposure to brine and associated chemicals  . . . results into numerous health complications to the field workers. Salt farming in the region is also related to severe ecological issues at Kenya’s coastal strip.”  http://www.ijhssnet.com/journals/Vol_3_No_3_February_2013/21.pdf

Korea— “ . . . disabled people forced to work under slave-like conditions, which later revealed the wider inhumane labor conditions across the salt producing industry.”  http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/nation/2014/02/116_151780.html

Niger—while no specific figures are given for children working in salt mines, the figure for a different type of mine was that child labor made up 43% of the mine workers.  Also see the link below for Sengal, which directly addresses Niger’s children working in salt mines.  http://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2000/01/chld-j07.html

Sengal—“The boys generally dig the pits, maintain them and fill sacs of between 18 and 25 kg
(worth 10 to 15 Fcfa each). Girls, generally accompanied by their mothers, help pile the sand, put it in bags and transport it. In some places girls carry loads of salt on their heads in tubs for up 15 kilometres to the nearest pick-up point.”  http://www.ilo.org/ipec/areas/Miningandquarrying/MoreaboutCLinmining/lang--en/index.htm

~~~
Israel is in the salt business, and they target children with human rights abuses.
For information on the later please see ‘Palestinian Children Under Attack:’
Here are a few details about Israel’s salt export business:
Israel is the world’s largest exporter of inorganic compounds, an export category that includes salt:
Israel marketed 421 metric tons of salt in 2010:  http://minerals.usgs.gov/minerals/pubs/country/2010/myb3-2010-is.pdf
In 2012 Israel’s salt exports were valued at $21,595,000 in US Dollars.
An Israeli Investment firm ran by Shari Arison recommends investing in Israeli salt.  She is ranked No. 64 in ‘Forbes World's 100 Most Powerful Women,’ according to her web site:  http://www.shariarison.com/en/content/arison-investments-company-salt-earth
There are a number of Israeli salt businesses, ‘Salt of the Earth’ is just one, and possibly the worst:  http://salt.co.il/index.php?sitelang=en
According to ‘Who Profits,’ ‘Salt of the Earth,’ also known as ‘Melach Ha'aretz,’  and another Arison brand, ‘Salit,’ are all exploiting Palestinian resources and operating out of illegally occupied Palestine for Israeli profit.   Israeli salt is not only sold under brand names, it is sold in bulk as an unbranded or generic commodity, and can be packaged under many brand names.  Simply boycotting these brands (which of course you should do) will not guarantee that Israeli salt will not make it into your salt shaker.  Check the label on all salt for country of origin information.  If it isn’t stated that salt could come from anywhere.  The best way to know that your salt is ethically sourced and supports ethical business practices is to purchase Fair Trade Certified salt or salt from a known ethical brand. Keep reading, we tell you how to find ethical salt below.  Meanwhile, here’s ‘Who Profit’s’ scoop on ‘Salt of the Earth:’ http://www.whoprofits.org/company/israel-salt-company
Please don’t skip your salt unless you are under doctors orders!  Salt is necessary for life.  While we know that too much salt does us harm, not enough salt can be just as harmful.  Salt helps regulate water balance in our cells, it is involved in the micro-electrical systems that regulate and empower our muscles, and it helps usher nutrients into our cells as well as helping eliminate cellular waste. Many people feel that raw minimally processed salt is far better for our bodies than the highly processed corporate salt.  The brands recommended below are not only ethical; they are healthy tasty life giving salt.  For more information on the benefits of natural salt please see:  http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2012/03/05/end-war-on-salt.aspx
 ~~~

Ethical Salt is Available!

Salt is a commodity, often sold in bulk and packaged by various brands—so avoiding a few brands isn’t likely to be a useful strategy.  Real Salt,’ ‘Celtic Sea Salt,’ and ‘Aloha Bay’ are the ethical brands that we have researched, however there are probably more.  (If you know of others, please leave a comment!)

Many countries, regions, and even communities have small salt works producing sustainable, ethical salt for the table.  Check with your local farmers' market, co-op, or natural food store and see what they have to offer.  To avoid commodity salt, you want to buy it in a package of some kind, rather than bulk—unless the bulk salt offered is single-sourced.  Read the label on the package (or the bulk container) and look for country of origin information.  If it comes from a country where you know there are ethical or labor problems or if it doesn’t say where it’s from, look for ‘Fair Trade Certified’ or ‘Certified Organic.’  Products involved in child or slave labor, or other ethical issues are denied both of these certifications.  If it isn’t Fair Trade Certified, Certified Organic, and if there is no country of origin information, (or if it is from Israel) don’t buy it.  It is likely to be an unethically produced product.  Bear in mind, just because a product claims to be Fair Trade or Organic doesn’t make it so.  Always look for the word ‘Certified.’

Order On-Line:

If you can’t find acceptable salt locally, there are a number of companies that offer it on-line.  Here in the US Azure Standard * carries both Celtic Sea Salt and Real Salt:   https://www.azurestandard.com/

Aloha Bay, markets Fair Trade Certified pink Himalayan salt from ancient deposits in Pakistan, you can order on-line directly from them:  http://www.alohabay.com/products/tablesalt/table_salt.html

Celtic Sea Salt, is produced from sea salt in France and is available from many on-line retailers.  Here is one example:  http://healthfree.com/shop/index.php?l=product_list&c=3

Real Salt, produced from ancient salt deposits in Utah, can be purchased by phone or on-line:  http://www.realsalt.com/

* Besides salt, Azure Standard offers many other ethical, natural, healthy, organic options for the table, kitchen, and home.  They deliver dry goods throughout the US via UPS and they have truck routes that also deliver produce and frozen foods to drop points in many large and midsized towns.  Orders under $50.00 are charged a minimal handling fee.  Their prices, however, are very competitive.
