Caterpillar Boycott

Occupation:   the action or state of being occupied by military force.  (1)

~~~
“The Israeli occupation of the OPT (Occupied Palestinian Territories) is illegal both intrinsically and
extrinsically.”   “Sovereignty and title in an occupied territory are not vested in the occupying power.”  “Under contemporary international law, and in view of the principle of self-determination, sovereignty is vested in the population under occupation.”    “The occupying power is entrusted with the management of public order and civil life in the territory under control. In view of the principle of self-determination, the people under occupation are the beneficiaries of this trust. The dispossession and subjugation of these people violate this trust.”  “Occupation is temporary. It may be neither permanent nor indefinite.”  (2)
“A United Nations independent expert today called on the world body’s General Assembly, as well as civil society, to take action against Israeli and international businesses that are profiting from Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory.
“My main recommendation is that the businesses highlighted in the report – as well as the many other businesses that are profiting from the Israeli settlement enterprise – should be boycotted, until they bring their operations into line with international human rights and humanitarian law and standards,” the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories, Richard Falk, said in a news release issued as he presented a report on his work to the Assembly.
Highlighting the activities of companies such as Caterpillar Incorporated of the United States, Veolia Environment of France, G4S of the United Kingdom, the Dexia Group of Belgium, Ahava of Israel, the Volvo Group of Sweden, the Riwal Holding Group of the Netherlands, Elbit Systems of Israel, Hewlett Packard of the USA, Mehadrin of Israel, Motorola of the USA, Assa Abloy of Sweden, and Cemex of Mexico, the Special Rapporteur noted that a wide range of Israeli and international businesses are involved in the establishment and maintenance of the Israeli settlements.
“All Israeli settlements in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, have been established in clear violation of international law,” said Mr. Falk.
“Yet today Israeli settlements control over 40 percent of the West Bank and between 500,000 and 600,000 Israeli citizens are living in Palestinian territory,” he added.” (3)
Congress is Out of Order
Quick Action: Lets get our congress back in order!
File:Barack Obama addresses joint session of Congress 2-24-09.jpg
Israel should not be attempting to run the U.S. Congress.
Congress should not be looking to the Israeli Prime Minster for leadership.
~~~

~~~
Here's why we need to act:
First, House Speaker John Boehner, in a totally illegal move, invited the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, to speak before congress without first discussing it with our President.  Why was this totally illegal?  "There is one key job . . .  that the founding fathers assigned to the president alone. The Constitution says that the president “shall receive ambassadors and other public ministers” from foreign governments."  http://blogs.reuters.com/great-debate/2015/03/01/netanyahu-invite-is-a-symptom-of-boehners-grudge-match-against-the-u-s-constitution/
Second, during the speech, Netanyahu made a number of claims that have were meant to influence the U.S. congress regarding Iran and its nuclear aspirations. Some of these claims have been shown to be exaggerations and others to be out right lies.  Please see the following articles:  Did Benjamin Netanyahu Lie To Congress? 5 Fact-Checked Claims From The Speech and Netanyahu speech: Fact-checking 5 key claims.  (The don't cover the exact same 5 issues.) Iran's response to Netanyahu's speech is also worth looking into:  Some people consider peace 'an existential threat.'
Now, 47 republican members of the U.S. Congress, under the influence of Netanyahu's speech, have taken it upon themselves to write a totally illegal letter to Iran in an attempt to derail in-progress and on-going nuclear negotiations:  The misguided, condescending letter from Republican senators to Iran.  Not only was the letter misguided and condescending, it is a direct violation of the Logan Act: Republican Congressmen Violated Logan Act By Negotiating With Foreign LeadersThe Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif responded to the letter, proving that he is more knowledgeable about U.S. policy and procedure as well as international law than our own governmental officials: GOP senators don ‘Kick me” sign; Iranian official obliges.
The truly unfortunate thing for our country, is that this total disregard by congress for the rule of law and for following established policies and procedures, is likely to harm both our continuing ability to govern ourselves and our standing in the international community as well.  The following article shows how this could play out:  By telling Tehran not to negotiate with the president of the United States, the party threatens America’s status . . .
Defending Democracy
Requires our vigilance . . .
"The best organized forces, not necessarily the most popular or democratic ones, often triumph in the end."
 ~~~

"We are taught in school that a government must have the consent of the majority to function, but this is false. A government only needs the public to fail at agreeing upon an alternative solution. This is why the mainstream media keeps us divided and distracted. This is how we’ve been conquered."

Tony Geren (The Pontiac Tribune)

"American corporations exert far more political influence in the United States than their counterparts exert in their own countries.
"In fact, most Americans have no influence at all. That’s the conclusion of Professors Martin Gilens of Princeton and Benjamin Page of Northwestern University, who analyzed 1,799 policy issues — and found that “the preferences of the average American appear to have only a miniscule, near-zero, statistically non-significant impact upon public policy.”
Robert Reich. from Truth Dig.

Boycott Carnation

For alternatives, documentation, & more information, please scroll down.

Nestlé’s evil deeds include child and slave labor, water resource raiding which causes illness and death, formula marketing that kills babies, and complicity in the Illegal occupation and apartheid system which Israel forces on the Palestinian people.

~~~
Documentation and More Information:
(Keep scrolling for alternatives.)
Child and Slave Labor used to produce Nestlé chocolate products:
Water Resource Raiding:  Nestle has virtually taken over the water supplies in parts of South Africa, Ethiopia, and Pakistan, leaving residents of those countries to sicken and die from what remains.  Nestle has been deaf to pleas from affected villagers for access to clean water:”
Formula marketing that kills babies:
The Israel connection:  “Nestle builds on stolen Palestinian lands and sells the products of such an apartheid system abroad so that the Israeli economy can flourish. It is no wonder that Nestle received from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in 1998 the Jubilee Award, the highest tribute ever awarded by the State of Israel in recognition of those individuals and organizations, that through their investments and trade relationships, have done the most to strengthen the Israeli economy."  http://vpm.org.my/bds/35-why-boycott-nestle
Alternatives are available!
Craving Chocolate?  Scroll down on our previous post about Nesquik to find healthy, ethical, guilt free alternatives:  http://boycott4peace.blogspot.com/2015/01/boycott-nesquik.html
Looking for a quick breakfast?  Start with the healthy ethical chocolate milk you will learn about at the Nesquik link above or with your favorite unflavored milk, juice, fruit nectar or puree.  Next get out your bender and get ready to design your own smoothies.  If you would rather use a recipe, scroll down to the next paragraph for a link—but if you are ready to experiment, here we go!  Pour 6 – 8 ounces of liquid or puree into the blender.  Add your choice of any of the following ingredients:  a banana and/or a handful of fresh or frozen berries or other chopped fruit (for flavor, fiber, and real nutrition);  a tablespoon of ground flax or chia seed (for fiber and super nutrition); ¼ teaspoon or more of rose hip, acerola, or camu camu powder (for a natural vitamin C boost); ½ teaspoon or more of nutritional yeast (for a B complex boost); and last but not least, a pasteurized egg or egg white,  a scoop of powdered milk (not Carnation!) or your favorite protein powder, or a big fat tablespoon of  cottage or other soft cheese, or your favorite nut butter (for your morning protein boost).  Blend until smooth; dip a bit out to taste. You can add a little sweetener if you really need it, blend some more, and enjoy!
If instead of experimenting on your own you would rather try a recipe, there a tons at the following link.  Some of them are made with greens instead of fruit; but only a few.   http://allrecipes.com/recipes/drinks/smoothies/
Yes, making your own breakfast smoothie is going to take a little more planning and a little more time than stirring some chemical laden flavored sugar into a glass of milk.  But you deserve it!  Real food is good for you, your family, and your health.  And if you check the label before buying, real food is guilt free!  Here’s our post on checking the labels on produce and other food products that might originate in the occupied territories:  http://boycott4peace.blogspot.com/2014/10/check-label.html
